The Service Processor (SPOCK) is still a separate entity again, I expect this will be integrated further as the dot releases become available. Over the long term I expect that the SSMC will be integrated into the VSP for 3PAR as this will give HP the ability to control software updates to the SSMC in a controlled fashion. It will also be available in certain flavours of Linux. SSMC will be available as a Windows based install on Windows Server 2008 R2, 2012 or 2012 R2. No licenses are required this will be a free download SSMC will be compatible with 3PAR Inform OS 3.1.3 or above. Something in my opinion has been long overdue. HP is moving towards a similar management experience for storage, servers and networking. Follow the instructions on the dialog that opens.

To upgrade to HPE SSMC 3.7 version, you must have a minimum version of HPE SSMC 3.5 or above. So what does it look like? Well below are a couple of screenshots to wet your appetite. The upgrade option is applicable only if you are upgrading the HPE SSMC software from v 3.4.0 onwards.

  • Management of file and block from same interface.
  • New dashboard with the same look and feel as OneView.
  • HP have decided to give the 3PAR Inform Management Console a ‘facelift’, step forward HP’s new 3PAR StoreServ Management Console AKA ‘SSMC’.

I've seen this happen in the past and Murphy's law dictates that it's always at the point where you desperately need access to said software or license. Those of you who have used the 3PAR Inform Management Console know that it wasn’t exactly the best, screen refreshes taking a while, being logged out of StoreServ’s with the connection still showing as open. It may well be that you have unrestricted access today, but as outlined above HPE would be well within their rights to refuse access at any point in the future if software support isn't in place. Software doesn't design, develop, test, debug or support itself so there's a genuine reason for support and it's associated funding.

If you don't have SW support you'll get stung for the support gap when you try to add to or modify the licensing model.Īs mentioned above accessing software without entitlement breaches the EULA agreement, typically product development costs for enterprise kit are distributed across hardware software and support, with individual item costs rarely remaining in their pigeon hole. Be careful with this, I've seen people caught out in the past (on other platforms) with things like firmware upgrades required to support new drives etc but more especially with licensing model changes (3PAR just went all inclusive).
